First, let’s look carefully at this picture and the word card.

Point to the first picture in the recording book, and the word card The Body. (click on picture for enlargement)

Here is a list of names of some parts of the body. I’ll read them to you.

Read each name on the word card to the student.

You can see that there are lines drawn from parts of the body to empty boxes.

I want you to tell me which would be the best name for each box. As I read out each name again, I want you to tell me which box to write it in. If you want to change your mind after I’ve written it down, that’s all right. Just tell me, and I’ll change it to what you want.

Read out each body part name then record it in the box decided by the student.

Here is a list of names of some of the bones in the body. I’ll read them to you.

Read each name on the word card to the student.

Again you can see that there are lines drawn from parts of the body to empty boxes. I want you to tell me which would be the best name for each box. As I read out each name again, I want you to tell me which box to write it in. If you want to change your mind after I’ve written it down, that’s all right. Just tell me, and I’ll change it to what you want.

Read out each bone name then record it in the box decided by the student.

Commentary
Predictably, students were most likely to confuse the liver and the stomach. There was virtually no change in anatomical knowledge between 1998 and 2002.
