: Signs

Resources: Set of 10 photographs arranged and presented in a standard sequence.

Questions/ Instructions:

I am going to show you some pictures of signs. Signs usually give us messages or tell us something.

I want you to look at the pictures and try to tell me three things about each one:

• What the sign is saying. If there are words, try to read them out loud.

• What the sign means.

• The places where you might see a sign like this.

Show the student each sign in order from 1 to 10.
Say "Here's picture number 1; Here's picture number 2" etc as you show the student each sign.

Commentary

Five of the ten photographs are reported. The remaining five are retained for future use. This is an example of a task where the ability to read and interpret written and visual information had to be matched with the ability to communicate what is read and understood.
