Making Art
 :Print Making (link task 1)
Approach: Independant task Time: 30 minutes (each student) Level: Year 4 and year 8

Resources: 12 oil pastels; 12 large soft crayons; 1 sheet of B3 grey sugar paper; drawing board.

The task was presented to students through the medium of a video recording which gave step by step instructions on procedure and technique, and the context for the image that they were asked to create. Students who had no previous experience of the particular process showed that they were able to carry out the procedures after watching the instructional video. Since most students made more than one image from their printing block form, they selected their best copy to give to the teacher administrator.

Students were not penalised for incomplete paintings

The majority of year 4 students (70%) were given low ratings compared with 34% of year 8 students. Overall, most students' works at year 4 and year 8 were rated on the lower 3 points of the scale.
