1. I want you to work together as a team. Try to put the photographs in a circle in the order that you think they were taken as the photographer moved around the model, from the first photo to the last one. Work together as a team so that everyone is helping. Here are the photographs.
Place Set A photos in front of students and allow time for them to be arranged in order. When they have finished ask them turn over the photos and read out the numbers for you to write down. The numbers are not in order.

Arrange the photos in Set B in order (year 4: from A-C; year 8: from A - D). Place Set B photos in front of students.
2. Here are 3 [year 4] 4 [year 8] more photographs. One of these was taken from the top — looking down on the model. Decide together which one that is.

Allow the team to select the photograph, then turn all the photos over and write its number on the recording sheet.
3. Now I am going to give you a set of blocks, and you are to see if your team can make an exact copy of the model. As you make it, look at the photographs for help.

4. Now put the model on the mat so that the side that matches photo 1 is facing photo 1. Now check to see if the rest of the photos are in the right places. You may re-arrange the photos if you need to. When they have finished ask them to turn over the photos in order and read out the numbers for you to write on the bottom section of the recording sheet.

Commentary:
Both year 4 and year 8 teams had more success in ordering the photos after they had a chance to make the model. Despite the fact that a simpler model was used for year 4 teams, they were much less successful than the year 8 teams.
