Commentary:
A significant minority of students ignored the picture and described their own pet. This might have been avoided if the first instruction had been “Find the picture of a dog”. Where students described their own pet, the marking scale was applied as fairly as possible to their description. Few students met all or most of the requirements, but about 25 percent more year 8 than year 4 students achieved a score of 3 or better.
