Commentary:
Students performed well on these simple additions, with 76% of year 4 students and 95% of year 8 students getting at least 27 of the 30 additions correct. The items beginning with zero were noticeably less well done than the other 27 items. At year 8, 92% of students got the zero plus items right compared to an average 98% for all other items. There was a similar pattern for year 4 students. These results suggest a useful teaching point, focusing on adding numbers to zero.
