[Students were asked to adjust three “missing” notes
in a piece of music to match a tune played. They could play the

tune played as many times as they wished until they thought it matched
the model.]

Commentary:
About 30 percent more year 8 than year 4 students placed all three notes
correctly. Notes had to be placed very accurately or they played a semitone
too high or low. |
