Commentary:
Unlike on the two previous oral reading tasks, there has been little change
in performance on this task between 2000 and 2004, apart from a small
reduction in low performance for year 4 students. For both year 4 and
year 8 students, there has been a marked increase in high performance
between 1996 and 2004, with 14 percent more year 8 students scoring in
the highest reading band and 12 percent more year 4 students scoring in
the two highest reading bands.
For year 4 students, there has been a marked decrease in low performance.
The percentage of year 4 students in the two lowest bands was 19 percent
in 1996, dropping to 15 percent in 2000 and 11 percent in 2004. |
