Commentary:
Both year 8 and (especially) year 4 students performed a little less well on this task in 2002 than in 1998. This difference applied across most of the task components. Fifty-three percent of year 8 students scored 12 or better compared with 8 percent of year 4 students.
YEAR 4 – HIGH RANGE:
Two children where getting ready to go on a bike ride. Once they had got out onto the road a car indercarted and pulled over to left side of the road. The young boy was going a bit faster than the young girl. As the young boy was on the side of the car the person in the car opened the door and the young boy flew off his bike. He was lucky he had his helmet on.
A boy was ready to go for a Bike ride with his sister thay went on the rode behind a car the car went left and arfter his sister went past her brother was just going to pass the car and then the Driver in the car opened the car Door and then.. Bang! her brother rode into the car Door and fell off his Bike and he was hert.
One day there was a girl and her freind. They were getting ready to go to school. They were going on there bikes. The girls dad put on their safety gear on. When he had finnished the kids went. There was a lady going on the road with her car and the kids were riding on the road. Then the lady stopped and the girl turned but her freind did not see the car and the lady opened the door and the door hit the boy and he fell down and he was on his bike. He fell badly and he got hurt badly.The End
Two boys went riding on their bikes. They were riding on the road. They did have helmets on. A car indercated and parked on the left side of the road. The boys rode beside the car and the car door suddenly opened and hit the boy. The boy fell off his bike and onto the road.
YEAR 4 – MID RANGE:
A girl and a boy was going on the bike to school. there dad checked there halment was tit. then they were riding on the road and a woman was in a red car and she was behind them. then parked on the side of the road and the girl went in front of the boy and then the woman opened her door and then the boy banked into the door and fell of on the ground.
Anny and Anthony are puting on their safty gear to go on their bikes. A car is reversing out of a driveway. Once it finished reversing, it headed straight down the road. Anny and Anthony were stiering [steering] behind the car. The car indecated to go left, It stoped. Anny had gone away from the car. The person open up its car door and accidently hit Anthony. Anthony went sgidding across the road.
One day two kids went bike riding on the road there was a car in frot of the two kids one of crashed When the car puledover and opend the car door the kid fall of his bike and was unconshes.
A girl and a boy were riding on there bike when suddenly a car was parked. The car had a driver who opend up the door. The boy bumped into the door and fell over on his hands and knees.
The accident was to kids taking the newspapers to people but there was a car who parked the car in front of the kids and he/she opened the door and one of the kids fell off but he was wearing a helmet
YEAR 8 – HIGH RANGE:
Today a young boy was seriously injured when the female driver of a Honda Accord was pulling over to get out. The woman indicated and pulled over to the side of the road. The boy and a friend clearly thought they were in no imediate danger and rode past the car. The woman did not see the boys and opened the drivers door, causing one of the boy’s to hit the door and fall off his bike. Police say it was lacky he was wearing his helmet. This brings the number of accidents like this to a total of 18 this year.
One friday two kids named Bill & Ben went outside to get there bikes to ride to school. When there dad checked there helmets they left. They were biking along on the side of the road (not very straight) a red car over took them and put its indicater on and pulled over. The two kids went out around the car and the driver of the car opened the door and Ben rode straight into it and fell of and injured them selves. After that Ben layed Helplisly on the ground.
It was around the morning a parent put on the helmet on his young children, two school-children, one girl and a boy were biking to school because they had bags. Another car, (it was a red Accord) drove onto the road. Around 10m, the car pulled over to a sign. The school girl passed the car but as the boy went past, the driver opened the car door hitting the boy. The boy fell off his bike landing face first, onto the concrete road. There wasn’t a big injury because the boy had a helmet on. This protected the boy from getting any serious damage.
Yesterday, an accident took place at Auckland, causing a little 7-yr old Adam who got paralysed by a man who’d accidently open the door while Adam was driving his bike and hit the door. It all started when Adam’s father escorted Adam and his sister, Sara out the driveway, by putting their helmets on. The man drove a Accord Honda 94 car The Honda turned left and stopped. The man grabbed his keys and opened the door, and Adam accidently drove into the door, “This would of been diffrently if I looked clearly” said the man.
YEAR 8 – MID RANGE:
Two children set of for school on their bikes. All was well untill a car pulled over on the side of the road the children kept going thinking he was reading a map. Then the car door opened and the children not having enough time to stop hit the car and fell off their bikes. They were both lucky they were wearing helmets.
On Tuesday morning at 8.00 it was the 3rd of March. Two kids named kim and carl got ready for school. They had their helmet on. Well they left from 106 lincoln and they were coming down lincoln RD they were watching the traffic and a silver ford with a female driving pulled to the side of the road. The lady in the vechile was going to work. The children were coming up to past the car. But the lady did not look and she opened her door missing the young girl but hit very bad the boy aged 11. The boy is in wanganui Hospital with suvere injuries but will be alright.
Today we have some shocking news. A boy has been knocked of his bike on the way to school. The lady who did it says tha she was just driveing along minding her own busness when she decided to stop to see her friend Julie. She said she just oppened her door and there he was. She is terribly sorry and is willing to pay for all induries that have occured.
Wanganui - Today at 8:30am a girl was biking to school when a red Accord passed her and parked about 20 meters in front of her. The driver went to get out of there car and opened the door and the girl crashed into the door. The girl is now in hospital. With a broken arm and cuts and grazes.
Well what happen was that a girl and a boy was riding a bike the farther made shore that they had saftey gear on. Then a lady in a car stoped on the side of the road and the two kids were coming the girl went first and then the boy. Well what happen was that she open the door when The girl went first She didnt see hem then he smashed on to the door.
