On the computer you are going to hear a phone message, but you will only hear it one time, so you will need to listen very carefully.
After you have listened to the message, I’ll ask you to write a short note telling what it said.

Now I want you to write a short note which tells what the phone message said.

Hello. This is Frank Kane of the town library speaking. I’d like to leave a message for one of the teachers called Mrs Bright. Would you tell her that it will be all right for her class to visit the library next Tuesday at 11 o’clock. We’ll have the videos about wild animals that she wants the kids to see. It takes about half an hour. Thanks.

Commentary:
Overall, both year 4 and year 8 students performed at similar levels in 1998 and 2002. On average, about 20 percent more year 8 than year 4 students included each component of the message.
YEAR 4 – HIGH RANGE:
Hello. This is Frank from the Town Library speaking. I’d like to leave a message for a teacher called Mrs Bright. Would you tell her it is alright for her class to come to the Town library on Tuesday at 11.00. We will watch those wild animal video’s she was wanting her class to see. That will take about 1/2 an hour.

He was leaving a message to Miss bright that her class can come and visit the libary an watch the wild life video on Tuesday at 11 o clock and the Video was half an hour long.

The man said hello then said this name, he also said “could you please tell Mrs bright that her class can come to the libary at 11:00 and they can view a video of the animals that she wanted. Thanks.”

The phone message was for Mrs. Bright. The person from the town library gave Mrs. Bright permission to visit the library and he has the video on wild animals ready for the kids.
