 THE SOCIAL STUDIES PROCESSES AT LEVELS 3–4


INQUIRY

Achievement Objective

Students will demonstrate skills as they:

q collect, process and communicate information about human society.

Within these levels, students could:

w frame questions to focus an inquiry;
w collect and record informatiion from a range of sources;
w process information using appropriate conventions;
w make a valid generalisation supported by evidence;
w comminicate findings using conventions appropriate to the mode of communication.



VALUES EXPLORATION

Achievement Objective

Students will demonstrate skills as they:

q explore and analyse values.

Within these levels, students could:

w explain why people hold different values positions;
w explain the possible consequences of some different values positions;
w explain some ways in which groups accept or resolve differences related to values positions.


SOCIAL DECISION MAKING

Achievement Objective

Students will demonstrate skills as they:

q make decisions about possible social action.

Within these levels, students could:

w identify possible causes of issues and problems;
w use criteria to evaluate a range of solutions to relevant problems;
w make a choice about possible action and justify this choice.

 
While implementing the processes and when concluding their studies, students will reflect upon and evaluate the steps they have taken and their findings.

APPENDIX 3

Tally sheet to record student responses. One sheet for each group of 25 students.
Name of task was recorded, plus the year group. The code of each tape was also
recorded, in order to re-check responses if necessary.
