Commentary
A substantial proportion of students, especially year 4 students, failed to reach the later task components. Almost 50 percent more year 8 than year 4 students achieved a total score of 12 or better. There was little change in performance between 2000 and 2004 for year 4 students, but a small decline for year 8 students, derived mainly from fewer students answering the last six task components.
